What Can You Expect From A
Part-Time Job:
Every employee, part-time or otherwise, has rights. The
Part-time Workers Regulations 2000 re-wrote the previous
legislation to ensure that Britain's part-timers are not treated
less favourably than full-timers (comparably speaking) in their terms and
conditions. The only exception to this, is when it is
objectively justified.
This means that you are
entitled to number of things including:
-
The same hourly rate of pay
-
The same access to company
pension schemes
-
The same entitlement to annual
leave and maternity/paternity leave on a pro rata basis
-
The same entitlement to
contractual sick pay
-
No less favourable treatment in
access to training.
There is a lot of information available on the internet to
help those who have queries concerning their rights and
regulations. One of the first places to look would be the
Government Department For Trade and Industry. ACAS also
has a wealth of information for part-time workers, and aims to
improve employment relations and thus improve organsiations and
working life.
