About the role

Help young children feel safe, communicate and take part in school life. Teach Now is recruiting a part-time SEND Teaching Assistant for an EYFS and primary special school in Enfield. Across the school, pupils have needs including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and trauma-related needs.

Play, sensory exploration and predictable routines shape this nurturing setting. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will adapt support to each child, from noticing subtle communication to helping them regulate emotions. Your role will combine early learning with practical care and relationship-building, recognising that pupils need different approaches to feel secure and ready to learn.

Key responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group support through accessible play and multisensory learning.

Use visual supports, objects of reference and agreed communication aids to promote choice.

Follow sensory and behaviour support plans, using calm, trauma-informed co-regulation.

Assist with personal care, meals and mobility under individual plans and within your training.

Support transitions and share observations on communication, wellbeing and progress with the class team.

Requirements

School-based SEND experience is essential, with relevant EYFS or primary experience.

Practical experience supporting pupils with ASD, PMLD, SEMH or trauma-related needs.

Confidence with personal care, communication support and emotional regulation; specialist training is welcomed.

You must be based in the UK, have the right to work in the UK and be able to commit to a long-term placement. Visa sponsorship is not available. A strong commitment to safeguarding is essential.
