About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Building Surveyor on a temporary basis to cover a long-term absence on our Islington Social Housing contract. This role focuses entirely on older, heritage housing stock within conservation areas.
You will be responsible for asset assessments, delivering high-quality building surveys for upcoming cyclical works, identifying necessary structural and cosmetic repairs, and writing up accurate technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct Building Surveys: Carry out a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 thorough building surveys per week on external blocks.
Defect Analysis & Documentation: Photograph, map out, and clearly mark up all areas requiring repair (including repointing, rendering, painting, roof repairs/replacements, sash window restorations, fencing, and pathway repairs).
Specification Writing: Produce detailed, accurate technical specifications of works using NHF Schedule of Rates (SOR) Codes, Version 6.
Compliance & Regulations: Ensure all proposed works and specifications align strictly with current Building Regulations and local conservation area guidelines.
Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a key point of contact, liaising effectively with residents, operational teams, and supply chain contractors to ensure seamless progression of works.The Property Portfolio
Exclusively Victorian and Edwardian traditional properties.
Situated within designated Conservation Areas.
Please note: This portfolio consists of traditional houses converted or maintained for social housing; there are no modern blocks of flats or new builds involved.Requirements: Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
Heritage Stock Experience: Proven surveying experience within a social housing maintenance environment, specifically working with Victorian and Edwardian housing stock.
SOR Expertise: Demonstrable experience writing detailed specifications utilizing NHF SOR Codes (Version 6).
Technical Knowledge: Excellent, up-to-date working knowledge of current Building Regulations.
Reporting Skills: Ability to prepare highly articulate survey findings, technical notes, and definitive repair recommendations.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for managing resident relations and collaborating with operational teams and external contractors.
Qualification: HND (Level 5) or higher in Building, Surveying, or a strictly equivalent construction discipline.Desirable:
RICS professional membership or working towards accreditation is highly desirable.What’s on Offer?
