January 2024 – In-Demand Part Time Jobs

At the beginning of 2024, we looked at some part time jobs that might be in demand for the year ahead. 

Great for those of you who had made a New Year’s Resolution to get yourself a new job because it’s always good to know where your skills or interests would be in demand. Perhaps you found some new ideas that would allow you to make a change in direction. 

Here were the 8 part time jobs that were predicted to be in demand throughout 2024.

  • Health services and residential care work – People of all ages require care of some description; whether that is because of physical, mental or emotional challenges. From entry level roles to those that require professional qualifications and experience, working in the health and care sector can be hugely rewarding as well as challenging
  • Graphic designer – combining creative skills with IT knowledge, graphic designers were in demand in 2024.In an increasingly digital world, graphic designers will be in constant demand
  • Programming & software development – Again, if you are tech savvy, these types of roles were in demand in 2024 and lend themselves well to part time work and remote working
  • Digital marketing – There’s a pattern emerging, isn’t there? If you have IT and / or digital skills, then those skills are very much in demand. If you think you are lacking in those areas but you are interested in this line of work, you couıld consider other types of part time work whilst you retrain in these areas 
  • Retail sales assistant – perfect for those of you looking for entry level part time jobs where you get to interact with customers and share your knowledge of the product you are selling
  • Salon assistant – Again, a great part time job idea if you are looking for entry level roles where you get to interact with customers. Working in a salon is perfect for those of you with an interest in the beauty industry
  • Delivery driver – As more people order goods online or via phone, the demand for delivery drivers will increase. If you love being behind the wheel – or riding a bike – you could consider delivery driver jobs
  • Warehouse jobs – There are lots of types of warehouses out there. Again, as internet shopping increases, goods that are stored in warehouses need to be picked and packed for customers

February 2024 – To Gig Job Or Not To Gig Job

For lots of you, the idea of working part time irregular hours with little commitment might seem appealing.

In February 2024, we looked at the pros and cons of doing gig jobs

Gig jobs can seem appealing because they have the following advantages:

  • They offer flexibility
  • They offer variety – perfect for those of you who don’t want to feel stuck in the same type of part time job all the time
  • They give you independence – you aren’t tied to the same employer and you can, in an ideal world, pick and choose your gigs
  • They give you extra income if you are working on other projects
  • They give you the opportunity for skill development
  • They give you the opportunity to manage your work life balance
  • They give you the opportunity to network and make contacts
  • They can give you the opportunity to work remotely

Naturally, there are also some disadvantages to gig jobs. Some of these include:

  • Income instability
  • Less job security
  • Potential of burnout if you don’t know your own limits
  • Limited career advancement

March 2024 – Part Time Job Ideas In The Travel & Tourism Sector

It is always beneficial if you can do part time work in a field that you have a passion for or a genuine interest in. 

In March of 2024, we gave you a list of part time job ideas for those of you who love to explore the world or you love the industry that makes it possible for us to see the world.

April 2024 – AI Or Not?

2024 was the year that AI certainly came to the fore and in April, we looked at whether or not you should be using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to apply for jobs and what recruiters do to recognise whether or not you did make use of it. 

Many recruiters will accept that AI has been used and it isn’t necessarily a bad thing to use it when applying for jobs.

However, it should be used as a tool for assistance rather than relying on it to do your job applications, completely.

Lots of people decide to move on from one job to another for a variety of reasons. You might be going to part time work from a full time job or you just want a new challenge or a new direction.

August 2024 – Back In The Office?

During the pandemic, remote work was forced upon many, depending on the nature of their jobs. From then, remote work and hybrid models have been the norm but in 2024, things started to change and that seems to be picking up speed as we head into 2025. 

If you are working in a part time job that gives you the opportunity to work remotely – or you are looking for this type of role, it could be that you may soon have to return to the office.

October 2024 – The Autumn Budget Statement
